A Decade of Electrification: AOLITE's Journey from Pioneer to Leader

Sep 04, 2026 0

1. Origins and Exploration – The Bold Step into Range-Extender Technology (2016–2018)

In 2016, while much of China’s construction machinery industry was still locked in intense competition over conventional diesel-powered equipment, AOLITE set its sights further ahead. That year, the company formally launched its electrification strategy – and chose the range-extender hybrid route as its entry point.

This decision was far from accidental. At the time, pure battery-electric construction machinery faced significant practical constraints: limited energy density in batteries and a severe lack of charging infrastructure. The range-extender approach, as a transitional solution bridging the internal-combustion era and an all-electric future, offered both practical viability and forward-looking relevance. More importantly, AOLITE established a deep research collaboration with a team of professors from the Technical University of Dresden in Germany. The team brought extensive experience in range-extender system development, providing invaluable intellectual support for AOLITE’s early-stage exploration.

After two years of focused R&D, AOLITE made a strong impression at BAUMA CHINA 2018 in Shanghai, unveiling its first hybrid electric–diesel loader. This model marked the first application of range-extender technology in compact and medium-sized loaders, equipped with an integrated intelligent control system. It immediately drew significant industry attention and was widely regarded as a “dark horse” at the exhibition.

However, the path of innovation is rarely smooth. Due to the immaturity of the industrial supply chain at the time, high costs of core components, and the market’s tentative acceptance of new-energy construction machinery, this milestone range-extender product ultimately did not enter mass production. Yet this endeavour was far from futile – it gave AOLITE invaluable hands-on experience in integrating battery, motor, and electronic control systems, and firmly reinforced the company’s commitment to its electrification trajectory.

It is also worth noting that AOLITE’s range-extender research received official recognition and funding from the Shandong Province “Double Hundred” Foreign Expert Programme and the Weifang City “Yundu Leading Industrial Talent” initiative – early endorsements that validated the strategic foresight of the company’s direction.

2. Strategic Pivot – Breaking Ground in Pure-Electric Technology (2019–2021)

In 2019, AOLITE made a pivotal decision: shifting its R&D focus from range-extender hybrids to full battery-electric technology. This was a bold turnaround, requiring the company to rebuild its technical architecture from the ground up and tackle the core challenges of pure-electric construction machinery.

The transition was anything but straightforward. Internally, the engineering team had to overcome critical hurdles in battery management systems (BMS), motor control strategies, and whole-vehicle thermal management. Externally, the electrification of construction equipment was still in its infancy, with few mature reference cases and an underdeveloped supplier ecosystem. Yet it was precisely these obstacles – which at times seemed almost insurmountable – that sharpened AOLITE’s technical capabilities and drove a systematic upgrade and transformation of the entire organization.

After nearly two years of intensive development, in early 2021 AOLITE successfully launched its first mass-produced pure-electric compact product – the E604 electric loader, with a rated load capacity of 400 kg. Though modest in size, this machine embodied the company’s core technological progress in batteries, electric motors, and electronic controls. More encouragingly, the E604 quickly gained market traction thanks to its combination of environmental performance, operational efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. To date, cumulative sales have exceeded 2,000 units, making it both the flagship model of AOLITE’s electrification drive and a reliable cash-generating product.

The success of the E604 was not merely a commercial achievement; it also validated the soundness of AOLITE’s pure-electric strategy and laid a solid foundation for the subsequent expansion of its product portfolio.

3. Product Portfolio Expansion – A Full Line-up of Electric Equipment (2021.9–Present)

With its core electric-drive technologies proven and market-tested, AOLITE entered a phase of rapid product proliferation. From 2021 onward, the company has launched multiple new electric models each year, quickly moving from a single-product offering to a diversified range covering load capacities from 400 kg to 2,000 kg.

To date, AOLITE offers more than ten mass-produced electric machines, including new-energy intelligent electric loaders, telehandlers, and rough-terrain forklifts. Among these, representative models such as the E604 and E612 are purpose-built for applications in modern agriculture, livestock farms, estates, confined spaces, and municipal landscaping. Customers can choose between lithium iron phosphate and lead-acid battery options, balancing environmental sustainability with operational practicality.

Technological maturity has also attracted formal recognition. Several of AOLITE’s intelligent new-energy electric loaders have received Bronze and Excellence Awards at the Shandong Province “Governor’s Cup” Industrial Design Competition. The company has been accredited as a National High-Tech Enterprise and a Shandong Provincial “Specialised and Sophisticated” Enterprise, and it hosts multiple provincial- and municipal-level R&D platforms. AOLITE has also participated in the drafting of several national standards for new-energy construction machinery – acknowledgements that reflect the industry’s growing recognition of its technological strength and market position.

4. Looking Ahead – Internationalisation, Electrification, Intelligence, and Premiumisation

As AOLITE enters its next phase of development, the company has set out a clear strategic roadmap centred on four pillars: internationalisation, electrification, intelligence, and premiumisation.

On the international front, AOLITE’s products have obtained multiple globally recognised certifications, including EU CE marking approval, and the company is accelerating its overseas market expansion. In terms of electrification and intelligence, AOLITE will continue to increase R&D investment, moving beyond basic electrification toward higher-order capabilities such as intelligent connectivity and unmanned autonomous operation. On the premiumisation front, the company aims to leverage its accumulated technological expertise to enter larger-tonnage, higher-value-added equipment segments.

From its early experiments with range-extender technology in 2016, to its decisive shift to pure-electric development in 2019, and now to a comprehensive product line of over ten models with ongoing refinement, AOLITE’s electrification journey is a story of continuous self-renewal and a readiness to embrace change. Looking forward, the company remains committed to its founding philosophy of “innovation-driven development and action-led achievement,” and is determined to write an even more compelling chapter in the global wave of construction machinery electrification.
